The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s hazard communication standard. WHMIS 2015 is based on requirements recently published by the Government of Canada.
WHMIS is a comprehensive system for providing health and safety information on hazardous products that are used, stored, and handled in Canadian workplaces.
WHMIS 2015
Workers who handle or work with hazardous chemicals must be trained in the protection and dangers of using hazardous chemicals. This training program must be in accordance with the requirements of WHMIS 2015 and must include specific information on the hazards and how to stay safe.
All employees who use or are exposed to the hazards presented by chemicals must receive training associated with hazardous chemicals. If training is not administered or other safety measures are not taken, injuries and possible fatal situations may occur.
